10/30/18 – Cool Season at the Garden

Sorry it’s been so long since there’s been an update!  Been a busy couple of months.

Cool season at the garden is my favorite garden time.  Mosquitoes and ants are minimal and it is not as uncomfortable.  Some winter crops have been started already.  Kale, arugula, mustard, lettuce, spinach, radishes, beets, onions, carrots, kohlrabi, broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, cilantro, parsley, and parsnips are only some of the winter crops we grow.  We have harvested our first shiitake mushrooms from last spring’s workshop!

The state fair that just wrapped up was great and everybody pitched in.  We came close to what we won last year.  The fall combination sale in Sept also was a great success.

This Saturday after the morning work day we are going on a field trip!  Maggie’s and our family have been to this apple orchard and nursery before but we want to share with everyone.  Everybody can eat at their own fast food of choice, then we plan to buy some trees for the farm, taste some apple cider and maybe apple fritters if they haven’t run out.  Let us know if you’d like to join in the caravan headed to Century Farm Orchard.  It will be fun, but i doubt we will see a deer run through the farm with an apple in its mouth.  Only at garner grows!

We’d love your help at the Garner trick or treat the trails this Wednesday.  Costumes encouraged.  We will give out candy as well as our new postcards.  Contact us asap if you’d like to help.  It’s so much fun seeing all of the little goblins going by!

Come and work and get your award winning persimmons, roselle and winter squash.  Plus, the red raspberries are still producing enough for a nibble or 2 each visit.

see you soon, pete
